HonestQuit Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

HonestQuit has separate browser and iOS products. Choose the section for the product you use. Their data stores and available features are different; they do not sync with each other. The iOS app is in preparation for release; this page does not announce App Store availability.

Introduction

HonestQuit ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the HonestQuit web application in your browser.

Information We Collect

Personal information you provide in the app:

We do not require an account, email address, or sign-in. We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers in this release.

How We Use Your Information

The browser app processes your saved information to:

Data Storage and Security

How you can lose data (important)

Because the live profile is browser-managed, it can be erased when:

Settings lets you export a versioned, checksummed JSON backup and preview a verified import before replacing local data. Exports may contain sensitive quit information; keep them somewhere you control. A browser persistence request can reduce some eviction risk when granted, but is not a backup or guarantee.

Your Rights

Children's Privacy

HonestQuit is intended for adults age 18 and over. It is not a child-directed service.

iOS app privacy

This section describes version 1.0 of the native HonestQuit iOS app.

Information you choose to save

The app stores your smoking habits, quit date, motivations, savings goals, craving and slip logs, journal entries, daily check-ins, completed missions, and nicotine-replacement logs on your iPhone. These records support progress estimates and coping suggestions. No account or sign-in is required.

Storage and sharing

The app uses a local database and local settings. This release does not sync through iCloud or CloudKit, upload private quit records to developer servers, run third-party advertising or analytics trackers, or provide public community posting. Device backups managed by Apple or your computer are separate from app sync; their contents and retention depend on your backup settings. Protect your device and any backups that may contain personal data.

Apple may provide crash and diagnostic reports if you choose to share analytics with app developers. When you choose to share a weekly report, its contents go to the destination you select. External website links, calls, and texts are handled by your device and the selected provider under their own policies.

Optional Apple Health and notifications

If you enable Apple Health access, completed breathing exercises can be written as mindful minutes. HonestQuit does not read Apple Health data in this release or send HealthKit data to developer servers, CloudKit, or third-party services. You can stop future writes in HonestQuit Settings and revoke access in Apple Health or iOS Settings.

Reminders require notification permission. You can change notification settings in the app or iOS Settings. Notifications may be visible on your lock screen depending on your device settings.

Deletion and data loss

In HonestQuit Settings, choose “Erase All HonestQuit Data” and confirm to remove the app’s local profile, logs, journal entries, check-ins, goals, settings, and notification history. Data already written to Apple Health remains in Apple Health and can be managed there. Erasure does not remove reports you have shared or copies in separately managed device backups.

The iOS app does not offer the browser product’s JSON export/import feature. Deleting the app can remove its local records. If the app reports that saved data cannot be opened, do not delete it as a troubleshooting step; contact support first.

HonestQuit is intended for adults age 18 and over and is not a child-directed service.

Contacting support

If you email us, your email address and the information you include are sent through your email provider and our support email service. Do not include health records or private journal entries unless needed for your request. The app does not automatically attach your quit history to support email.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date.
